The airport disruptions at Mumbai were caused by a network problem that happened on Tuesday evening and caused flight operations of IndiGo and Air India to be disrupted, interfering with the check-in and boarding process for passengers. But the issue set in around 7.05 PM, without paralyzing the check-in procedures at the Airport, sources said.

Airport Systems Switched to Manual Mode

The airport sources report that the teams working on the network problem are taking efforts to solve the issue. Given that, airport systems have been put into manual mode as a safety precaution, in accordance with protocols.

The passengers are being processed at a slower pace because of the disruption, which could impact departure times as the airlines and different airport staffing groups sort out operations without the same procedures to facilitate the work.

Passengers Face Boarding Confusion

The mix-up with the boarding gates in Mumbai caused further problems for passengers as they were unable to board the aircraft. Passengers encounters further delays due to delay of airline staff and slow boarding scanners.

The departure delays, slower boarding and gates changes resulted in an uncertainty for the travellers trying to get through the formality of departing their flights.

Technical Teams Working to Restore Services

Airport teams are working to determine the cause and what is being done to fix the network issue. These changes are temporary and for the airport to preserve essential operations while working on the issue.

Services conducted at the check-in counters will still operate but it will be slower so passengers travelling with the affected airlines will be inconvenienced.

Airlines have urged passengers to stay alert to announcements and monitor their flight status to let them know which gates to go to and when.

The reason for the disruption of the network and how long for it restore services to normal was not immediately available.

The incident serves as an example of the type of incident that can occur at a major airport involving technical issues on several airlines, especially in the evening hours when they are busy.
