St. Teresa’s has lost its shine. Karan Johar announced Student Of The Year: After Dark on the 14th anniversary of the first film, and this time, the franchise heads to streaming with Shanaya Kapoor in the lead, marking her OTT debut.
The teaser is brief but loud. It shows Shanaya laughing before transforming into a blood-stained, ghostlike presence. The glossy campus of the earlier films is gone. The thriller revolves around a competition, with violence, mystery and rivalry taking centre stage. The series is reportedly envisioned as a mix of Class and Euphoria.
The trailer introduces Ayesha, played by Shanaya Kapoor, the popular queen bee of St. Teresa’s Heritage School, whose death sets the story in motion. Her twin sister, Aditi, also played by Shanaya, refuses to believe that Ayesha’s death was accidental. Determined to uncover the truth, Aditi enters the school and joins the fiercely competitive Student Of The Year contest.
As she navigates the school, Aditi discovers that Ayesha’s closest circle is also filled with rivals, raising questions about the circumstances surrounding her death.
Reema Maya, a two-time Sundance nominee known for the short films Nocturnal Burger and Counterfeit Kunkoo, helms the series under Dharmatic Entertainment. She has described the project as “a bold statement.”
Sharing the trailer, Karan Johar wrote, “A whole new era dawns upon St. Teresa Heritage School and the closer you get to the truth, the deadlier it gets.”
Besides Shanaya, the series also features Abhinav Singh, Divik Sharma, Manya Grover, Deeya Damani, Adi Malik, Sheeba Chaddha and Vivek Gomber.
The 2012 original launched the careers of Alia Bhatt, Varun Dhawan and Sidharth Malhotra. Student Of The Year 2 followed in 2019, starring Tiger Shroff, Ananya Panday and Tara Sutaria.
Student Of The Year: After Dark will premiere exclusively on JioHotstar on November 13, 2026.
