Tamil Nadu ruling party, TVK. has taken a jibe at the Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam following the arrest of its former state education minister Anbil Mahesh Poyyamozhi in an alleged Rs 100 crore corruption case.
The party’s IT wing, in a series of posts on social media, accused DMK president M K Stalin of hypocrisy in questioning his response to the corruption allegations against his former minister.
The posts invoked Mahesh’s remark after the 2025 karur stampede in which 21 people were killed during a rally addressed by the current chief minister of the state, Vijay. The party used the former minister’s words repeatedly, asking the public to follow safety conditions, to take a swipe at DMK leadership.
One post by the party carried the phrase ‘conditions are followed’, accompanied by a winking emoji, a reference, apparent reference, to a viral video recorded after the stampede in which Mahesh, the then education minister, was seen breaking into tears while speaking about the repeated appeals made to the public to comply with the conditions laid down for the gathering.
In another post, the IT wing directly targeted Stalin, asking whether the DMK president had fallen asleep while in power and accused him of making statements without addressing allegations of corruption involving his party leaders.
“Stalin sir, who can’t be caught… Were you sleeping while in power? When your ministers have racked up so many corruption cases, why, sir, are you just flapping your mouth like a Bengal monitor lizard?” the post said.
Mahesh was arrested by the Chennai police’s Central Crime Branch on Monday shortly after the High Court rejected his anticipatory bail petition in connection with the allegations that the money collected from the private school managements in exchange for permanent recognition, licenses and other government approval.
