Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB), Bilaspur has launched chargesheet against former Government Railway Police (GRP) constable Laxman Gain in a disproportionate assets probe in Chhattisgarh. During the course of the investigation it was found that the expenditure that Gain had made amounted to ₹1,03,33,033.50 which was more than the likely sources of his income.
Investigation identifies Irregular Spending
Gain’s total income was found to be ₹86,76,270 and his total expenditure has been worked out as ₹1,90,09,303.50 by the ACB investigation. The difference between them is over ₹1.03 crore, which resulting made the difference prompting the proceedings against him.
An FIR was also registered under Section 13(1) (b) and (2) of the Prevention of Corruption Act, 1988 (as amended) as Crime No. 58/2024. As part of the investigation, ACB made searches at the Ganai’s residence in Bilaspur and other places on December 1, 2024.
The agency, after gathering and analysing evidence where he’s earning and spending money, filed the chargesheet before the Special Court that had been established under the Prevention of Corruption Act at the Bilaspur court.
Separate Case Pertaining to Alleged Cannabis Trafficking
Gain is also the subject of an ongoing case of alleged cannabis trafficking. It is alleged that he and other constables picked up drug traffickers and kept the drugs with them without taking any action under the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act and received money in lieu of not taking any steps to arrest the traffickers.
Case has been registered under section 20(b) and 29 of the NDPS act as Crime No.117/2024. The allegations led to the deputation of Gain from the service on November 19, 2024 by the Chhattisgarh Superintendent of Railway Police.
He has been lodged in Bilaspur jail over the cannabis related charges and is currently staying there. Case for disproportionate assets will go through the judiciary process.
