A few other areas in Arunachal Pradesh have seen a face-off between Indian and Chinese troops over the past few days and is ongoing, said Director General of Indo-Tibetan Border Police (ITBP) Shatrujeet Kapur on Thursday.

The situation had spread to multiple locations in Arunachal Pradesh which called to the attention of the ITBP base in Alwar, the Rajasthan Regiment holder added. The senior officer will retire at the end of the month.

In the latter development, Kapur announced that the ITBP has raised another combat unit called ‘Shaurya commandos’. The team, created since the shooting incidents that occurred across several spots in the state, showcased its skills during the current standoffs with Chinese People’s Liberation Army (PLA) units, he said.

He said that Shaurya commandos would be stationed in each and every border battalion and that it would be instrumental in enhancing operational readiness of the force as it would give it an identity.

Concentrate on Border Readiness

Sources revealed Kapur’s remarks on China to be in the context of routine deployment and preparedness exercise in the India-China border. They responded that the statement did not relate to any incident or event of which they are aware.

The ITBP was first formed in 1962 to ensure security of the 3,488-kilometre Line of Actual Control (LAC) between the Indian and Chinese controlled areas.

The remarks followed bigger security situation assessments in the disputed border. The scenario along the LAC remains stable and there’s no reason for worry, said last month Chief of Defence Staff (CDS) Gen NS Raja Subramani in an interview to NDTV Defence Summit.

Experts close to the know-how asserted that the working of border security in Arunachal Pradesh remained on the agenda while at the same time, the top defence officers termed the situation along the LAC overall as stable.

The newly formed unit of ‘commando’ type with the ITBP is likely to help the force’s preparedness in difficult border situations.
