Congress chief Sonia Gandhi has been given the first hardback edition of her forthcoming memoirs Belonging: A Journey of Love, before the book is issued to the world on November 10.
The 79-year-old was shown a handful of copies of her long-awaited book as well as a box of sweets, by her publishers. Sonia Gandhi noticed as they came in loaded with the books, “you have brought a heavy burden of books.
Later she posed with the hard cover for pictures while those in attendance applauded her. As she leafed through the pages in the book, Gandhi turned it over to her daughter and said, “Lots of pictures, Priyanka Gandhi Vadra.”
A video that was posted online captured the instant, with Priyanka giving her mother sweets and the two hugging.
Gandhi also took to Instagram for the day, sharing her excitement about the memoir. It’s a love story, a duty story, a loss story and a place to belong story and I am excited to share that with you.
The book’s Indian publisher HarperCollins regards Belonging as one of the most awaited political memoirs of his times. It tells the story of relationships, identity and obligation, it is a personal account of love and it is an inside look at an India on the move, the publisher writes.
The publication of the memoir comes after reports that Penguin Random House India had backed out of the project due to allegedly objection from Gandhi about editing the manuscript. The publisher told Times of India on Wednesday that there was no such motive for taking the decision.
Gandhi said in the statement (via Alfred A. Knopf, the book’s US publisher) that although much had been told about her family, few had touched on the truth of their motivations, actions and human shortcomings.
It’s believed the eisele memoir will provide a personal look into her life and family for those reading it.
