In Dongargarh, Rajnandgaon district of Chhattisgarh, a suspected case of LPG cylinder gas theft has been revealed, leading to a concern over the gas distribution system. The incident reportedly took place in a field outside the city, where workers reports that they spotted suspicious handling of cylinders and their loading on a freight truck.
After hearing from the local people, the Sub-Divisional Magistrate (SDM) and a food inspector went to ascertain the details. Later the administration went to the gas station with the vehicle and held a panchnama process there. But four persons who were on the scene escaped during the action, it was reported.
The case is connected with the Provident Fuel Centre of Dongargarh owned by Indane Company. The development has also garnered attention as it has allegedly been happening for quite some time when consumers have received less gas than expected in LPG supplies.
Preliminary information states that there were a few people, near the vehicle carrying the cylinders in an isolated field, between Adarsh Nagar and Bhurwa Tola. If the residents asked them questions and did not receive any satisfactory responses, they reported it to the authorities.
The people suspected of taking part reportedly worked with the gas agency in the cylinder distribution and were apparently hired about three months ago. They are believed to live in Rajasthan. There has been a concern also whether the agency had correctly established their identities and employment records.
There are several significant elements that are missing, such as the fact if the gas was weighed, whether any gas was missing and if any equipment proposed to have been used to tamper may have been recovered.
The investigation should also uncover if the prior consumer complaints were investigated and if enough distribution documentation was maintained. If the storage authority does not disclose its results the claims are not substantiated. Clear inspections, ID verifying and effective monitoring of employees has been come into light as important tools to safeguard consumers against irregularities in the case.
