October 21 is marked as Police Commemoration Day to celebrate and pay tribute to policemen or policewomen who have given their lives in the discharge of their duties. It was an auspicious day to mark the loss of life of 10 Police officers who were martyred in the encounter with Chinese troops during Hot Springs in the heart of the Himalayas in the year 1959.
The event reminds all citizens of the risks that police forces are subjected to when they are protecting the nation and the citizens. Obituaries are issued for those lost in service and their service to the public and nation is honored.
