Jabalpur: Heavy thick black smoke rose in the air for miles on Monday when a massive fire erupted at a biscuit factory in Parle’s in the Indian state of Madhya Pradesh’s Jabalpur city. Firefighters responded with eight fire engines that were rushed to the location where a blaze was being put out.

The accident occurred at the factory in the Richhai Industrial Area in the vicinity of Adhartal police station. Initial information indicates the fire was fast spreading, again reportedly because of flammable material inside the facility.

The burning continued in such a way that there was a big column of black smoke rising above the industrial estate, leading to panic among nearby people. People at the scene tried to extinguish the blaze before calling for fire department assistance.

Firefighters responded with eight units. The first priority was to move out the staff from the factory and protect them.

The number of workers present inside the facility was reported at zero and no one was considered safe being taken out. However, there was no immediately available report of any casualties in the downpour of news.

There has currently been speculation that the fire was caused by a short circuit, but a specific cause has yet to be determined. Only an investigation will be able to establish the cause after the situation is brought under control.

The damage to the factory, the machines, and materials already stored in the factory are also uncertain. Losses will be evaluated after the fire has been extinguished and it is safe to go in for evaluation.

Fires in industrial buildings where flammable fuels could create an environment for rapid spread into one another are once again being used as an example of potential hazards. More information is likely to emerge upon completion of the initial investigation and cause of the fire.
