In Chhattisgarh’s Gariaband district, the security government has recovered a stash of explosives and other items allegedly hidden by the Naxalites during an anti-Naxal probe. During Central Reserve police force (CRPF) and district police’s investigation, the recovery took place in the Mainpur police station area.
After the declaration of Chhattisgarh as Naxal-free area, officials said security forces are still on a search in the forests for Naxal dumps. In this context, an joint search operation by the CRPF 65th Battalion with district police was carried out in the forests of the villages of Kulhadighat, Kathwa and Gawarmud.
An unusual object was observed during the operation near a culvert near Govarmunda. It was cordoned off and searched, and security forces trailed the Naxal dump, where explosives and arms were found.
The CRPF has dispatched its Bomb Detection and Disposal Squad (BDS) to investigate the area, given the potential threat. The team then dug up a few items underneath.
Along with the tiffin IED that weighed about 2.5kgs, four rounds of under barrel grenade launcher (UBGL) and 15 empty cartridge cases, medicines and other daily use items were also recovered.
Police claimed the materials were potentially a security threat. All four rounds of UBGLs were destroyed by controlled explosions at the site following the standard prescribed procedures and safety precautions, as was the tiffin IED.
The operation is part of ongoing security forces efforts to track down sources of contraband and possible dangers in the forests of the district.
Anti-Naxal operations were set to further enhance peace and security in the area, the CRPF’s 65 Battalion added. The authorities are keeping a tight eye on the area and performing more searches to pinpoint additional hidden garbage and other potentially dangerous substances that could endanger the lives of the police and the safety of the public.
