Pakistan in a renewed attempt has decided to extend its airspace ban for Indian-registered aircraft, planes owned and operated or leased by Indian airlines, for another month until November 24th, according to airport authority Pakistan.
The extension was announced in a post on X on Saturday, saying the restriction also covers military flights.
The restriction was initially imposed on April 23rd, 2025 and since has been periodically extended, straining the relations between the two neighboring countries. Media outlets quoted a PAA spokesperson said a fresh notice to airmen has been issued to extend the ban.
The NOTAM applies to both Karachi and Lahore flights information regions(FIR). Pakistan’s airspace according to Pakistan Civil Aviation Authority document 2022 is divided into two FIRs: Karachi and Lahore.
In retaliation India also closed its airspace to Pakistani airlines on April 30 2025.
The continued airspace restrictions between the two neighboring nations has affected airline operations, forcing carriers to take longer routes on some international flights.
Besides, India accused Pakistan of its involvement in the Phalgam attack, and allegations Islamabad denied. In retaliation it also closed its airspace to Pakistani airlines on April 30 2025. The incident was followed by a sharp escalation in diplomatic and military tensions between the two nations.
