Delhi Police rushed to the residence in New Delhi of founder of Cockroach Janta Party Abhijeet Dipke in advance of the planned Tiranga Yatra at Central Park on Friday. A march has been called to vent against Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar for alleged manipulation in the electoral lists in the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral lists.
CJP has called upon the people of the country, as well as supporters, to congregate in Central Park and wave the national flag. The planned demonstration has also highlighted the arrests of CJP members, Saurav Das and Ashutosh Ranka.
On October 13, the two openly waved the national flag inside Jantar Mantar and were put under five-day judicial custody. This came a day after the historic site got its designation revoked as a protest site.
In advance of the planned event, the New Delhi Municipal Council (NDMC) said the Central Park will be closed to public on Friday and Saturday due to “administrative reasons”. Delhi Police, on the other hand, said it could allow a “limited” number of people to wave the National Flag and sing the National anthem at an appropriate place.
In the video it was seen that Dipke, 31, was sitting on a sofa, with a small national flag draped over his shoulders, while he was reading documents that were put in front of him by the police.
Earlier, Dipke challenged the notice by asking a policeman, “Kya aarop laga diya hai aapne mere upar?” or Are you putting any charges against me?
During part of the notice, Dipke mentioned a ‘suspected’ campaign orchestrated by him on social media, a campaign that the notice denounced as ‘unlawful’.
The police visit follows growing concerns around the proposed Tiranga Yatra along with prohibitions on entry to Central Park and claims that the cops are willing to hold a limited, flag waving event at an alternative venue.
