The Enforcement Directorate (ED) has lodged a money laundering charge sheet against Dinesh Kumar Goel and Monila Goel, the present two directors of FIITJEE Limited before a special Prevention of Money Laundering Act (PMLA) court at Ghaziabad. The case is related to alleged money laundering related to coaching fees of students.
The agency has asked the court to convict the accused and recover the money of ₹ 71.88 crore which has been recovered/attached during his investigations. The complaint will be considered in accordance to the legal process and the filing of the complaint is not a determination of guilt.
The ED said that between May 2024 and February 2025, 32 coaching centres of FIITJEE have closed down suddenly, that left 14,411 students unable to avail that coaching which they had paid for.
Four FIRs had been registered after which investigation commenced. The three police complaints were filed in Uttar Pradesh police station, Noida, Greater Noida and the other by Madhya Pradesh Police, Bhopal.
The FIRs claim that FIITJEE received advance fees between ₹2.8 lakh and ₹3.5 lakh for coaching programmes that spanned from two to four years per student. Courses were a combination of lectures and exercises designed to prepare students for competitive examinations such as Joint Entrance Examination (JEE).
But several centers also allegedly shut down when teachers resigned the institute due to lack of payment for their salaries. The ED accused the administration of continuing to accept admissions when they knew that possibly the coaching programmes they were pledging to deliver may or may not be fulfilled.
The agency is looking at how fees are being collected from students and the reason the centres were shut down. The complaint is asking for a lawsuit against the company and its directors for the company’s financial irregularities.
Problems brought to light by the case include the effects on pupils and their parents who invest huge amounts of money in coaching courses. Both the evidence presented during the proceedings and the prosecution case will be taken into account.
