These two have done this before. Rashmika and Vijay first worked together in Geetha Govindam (2018), then again in Dear Comrade. On Tuesday evening in Hyderabad they were back side by side, this time for Ranabaali, which opens October 16.

The palette was ivory and gold, mostly. Rashmika’s silk saree had a gold-thread border, and the deep-red blouse stood out against it. Roses in her bun, a heavy gold choker, and that was enough.

For that extra poise, she chose smoky eyes, feathered brows, mascara-coated lashes, flushed cheeks and brown lips. She wore her hair in a bun with fresh roses, allowing the saree’s neckline and earrings to stand out.

Vijay kept it easy. White kurta, matching trousers, a sleeveless cream bandhgala with gold buttons, sleeves pushed up. It sat well next to her saree.

Now the film. Ranabaali is set in Rayalaseema between 1854 and 1878 and follows a warrior who fought British colonial oppression. Vijay plays the title role, Rashmika is his wife Jayamma, and Arnold Vosloo plays a British officer. Rahul Sankrityan directs, with music by Ajay-Atul.

Plan your evening, though. The runtime is 3 hours 5 minutes. The film is timed for Vijayadashami and releases in Telugu, Tamil, Hindi, Kannada and Malayalam.
