Devajit Saikia, the secretary of Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI), has debunked claims that the inaugural ODI between India and Sri Lanka fixtures were called off in Delhi and slated for Ahmedabad instead. Saikia clarified Monday that a decision hadn’t been made regarding the change of venue and the match was still planned to be played in the national capital.
Rumours started to swirl regarding the possible offing after they were aware that work was on at Arun Jaitley Stadium, which may impact its hosting capability for the opening game of the series.
Saikia contended that the reports were untrue and requested the media organisations to keep an eye on BCCI’s official note for updates on the schedule.
The ODI between India and Sri Lanka in Delhi are not affected by the reports of being shifted to Ahmedabad and the event will still go ahead in the national capital. There has been no such decision by BCCI, said Saikia in an official statement.
He also reaffirmed that bilateral matches are granted per the normal Board Policy.
India vs Sri Lanka ODI Schedule
The first ODI between India and Sri Lanka will be played in Delhi next on December 13, as per the schedule mentioned in the report. Ahmedabad is hosting the third and final ODI on December 19.
Because of this clarification, there is no news on venue change for the series opener. Any change would have to be made official with an official statement from the BCCI.
Three T20Is Also Scheduled
Sri Lanka are also playing a three-match ODI series alongside the three-match T2ODI series against India.
Both sides will have a chance to face off against each other in the two formats of limited-overs cricket in the upcoming fixtures. BCCI has urged fans and media to not just rely on the reports of a venue change but to instead refer to its official communication.
This schedule listed here may be subject to subsequent official changes by the board.
