On Monday, 12 October Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC) has shut entry and exit gates in six metro stations in Central Delhi in view of the safety concerns. The curbs are also being imposed from 6 AM to 4 PM ahead of a protest march by the INDIA bloc to demonstrate at the Supreme Court demanding a rollback of restrictions on electoral rolls and its quitting notice to Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar.

The bans are the newest order two days after authorities reportedly closed 45 metros stations because of protest extended by the Cockroach Janta Party (CJP) against corruption. Commuter traveling in the heart of the country’s capital area will be impacted by the closures.

People in 6 Delhi Metro Stations Affected

These stations will continue to be closed off to entry/exit until 4 pm:

  1. Patel Chowk
  2. Janpath
  3. Rajiv Chowk
  4. Mandi House
  5. Central Secretariat
  6. Barakhamba Road

In a post on X, the DMRC stated that the curbs will be continued from October 12 between 6am and 4pm. Security agencies “will investigate… and provide further updates if necessary,” it added.

But interchange stations will remain open at all six affected metro stations so passengers can switch metros even if they are not able to exit the metro line.

Delhi Traffic Police Issues Advisory

In view of security measures and metro shutdowns, the Delhi Traffic Police has also issued a traffic advisory to remind commuters of the fact that there may be congestion on some traffic routes and diversions in other routes.

Over the night there was a lot of heavy rainfall and it might turn waterlogged to further extend the traffic jams across the Delhi-NCR region, mainly during the morning commute for office.

Petioncit have been told to take appropriate measures and add additional time to their commute, and they were urged to make a point of consulting official traffic and metro information before heading to work. Restriction period may be adjusted as a function of the security agencies evaluation.

The measures will impact traffic in major locations across central Delhi where authorities have warned of a planned protest by political parties.
