The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) on Sunday, October 11, criticised the Cockroach Janta Party (CJP) over its shift from student-related issues to electoral politics, questioning the group’s changing focus just months after it emerged.
Addressing a press conference at the BJP headquarters, BJP Rajya Sabha MP Sudhanshu Trivedi said the organisation had initially led protests over an alleged NEET paper leak and students’ concerns but had now turned its attention to the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls.
Taking a swipe at the group, Trivedi compared the change in its focus to a rapid “mutation,” saying such a transformation would be difficult to find even in radioactive decay.
The BJP’s criticism followed remarks by senior party leader Ravi Shankar Prasad on Saturday. Prasad had accused the CJP of acting as a political proxy for the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP), describing its activities as “shadow-boxing” on the party’s behalf.
Meanwhile, CJP leaders Abhijeet Dipke, Ashutosh Ranka and Saurav Das vowed to expand their protests over alleged irregularities in the electoral roll revision process. They said their agitation would continue until Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar resigns.
The leaders, who were released on the condition that they would not breach the peace for a year, also described their detention as illegal.
The dispute comes amid growing political tensions over the SIR exercise and the Election Commission’s handling of electoral rolls. The BJP has questioned the CJP’s motives, while the group has maintained its opposition to the revision process and called for further action.
The latest exchange highlights the widening political disagreement over the CJP’s protests, with the BJP challenging the organisation’s shift in priorities and CJP leaders insisting they will continue their campaign.
