Congress leader Rahul Gandhi and Tamil Nadu Chief Minister and Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam (TVK) President C Joseph Vijay met in Chennai on Saturday to have a political conversation and have an informal tea party which quickly made the headlines in the public and media.

Vijay first received Rahul Gandhi at his doorsteps in Neelankarai, a suburb on the East Coast Road in Chennai. About an hour of the two leaders’ discussions reportedly included politics.

But, what went on outside of school was considerable. After their meet Rahul Gandhi and Vijay had a break at a nearby café where they allegedly placed an order of Cappuccino, Tiramisu and cookies.

Curious onlookers were attracted to the event, which took place after a no-county Thursday morning’s outing. Some were even able to pose for one for selfies and photographers snapped pictures of the event. The meeting’s casual tone helped break the routine of so many official encounters among high-ranking political leaders.

The meeting follows political events in Tamil Nadu that have been in the news recently, especially after the emergence of Vijay as a relatively new political face, from the TVK. Meanwhile, Rahul Gandhi has been carrying out Ladli Lakshmi Maa Yojana among the young generation.

Following the cafe, Rahul went to Chennai to stay at a hotel. He is in the city to take part in the most recent event of his youth outreach programme Chhatron ki Goonj, which will take place at the Island Grounds this Saturday evening.

Rahul Gandhi and Vijay were spotted together in an informal meeting in a context that has political implications, making the event an interesting one to watch. The leaders are said to have “conversed on politics” but no details of their talks were given in the account.

The political activity was enlivened with this light moment, thanks to their capuccino and tiramisu outing and the images and video content are sure to spark discussion over social media.
