Chhattisgarh Chief Minister Vishnu Deo Sai has attended a high-level meeting on the Mahanadi water dispute with Odisha in New Delhi on Thursday. The meeting is being chaired by Union Home Minister Amit Shah as discussions over water sharing issues between the two states are taking place.

Technical representatives and the senior officers of both the states, Sai and Odisha Chief Minister Mohan Chandra Majhi will attend the meeting. Talk will be centered on allocation, management of the waters of Mahanadi and a search for a suitable solution for the dispute.

Sai said that the Chhattisgarh government had written to the Central Water Commission (CWC) over the water dispute before they headed to Delhi. He said the both the states have agreed to receive the decision by CWC as it is in the interest of both Odisha and Chhattisgarh.

The Centre has been conducting discussions between the two States, and technical consultations are also underway via the CWC. The Union Ministry of Jal Shaktyo said both states were keen on seeking a mutual resolution of the issue through dialogue and technical cooperation in July.

Sai also shared his proposed plans to visit Singapore. This trip would give an opportunity to exhibit development of the state of Chhattisgarh and to meet the business people from other countries and investors.

During the visit, dialogue will be held on investment possibilities in the state, education and leveling up of skills, technology and international partnerships.

In the wake of several rounds of discussions between the two states and the Centre, aimed at resolving the long pending issue of the sharing of water from Mahanadi, the Delhi meeting has taken place.
