Shooter Esha Singh and Vithya Ramraj etched their names into the gold book of Asian Games while touching the highest touch by shooting silver in the women’s 25m pistol and women’s 400m hurdles respectively on Monday in the Asian Games 2026.

Vithya then recorded 54.75 seconds in the final to improved the national record of India. Her jettying time of 55.42 seconds had been held by PT Usha since 1984. India won yet another medal in the Aichi-Nagoya Games with the help of the bronze.

Esha Singh also did a fine job in the individual event of the women’s 25m pistol shooting to finish with silver after a thrilling series of shoot-offs. Indian shooter finished off the regulation in a level game with the China’s Xiao Jiaruixuan but went down to the shoot-off to see Xiao win Gold. There were numerous shoot-offs to go through in the end before Esha reached the podium.

Esha’s silver was the compensation to the Indian team, who had come down empty in the 25m team pistol event earlier in the day. It is important to note that Manu Bhaker, part of India’s squad, did not make it to the finals.

India also created additional opportunities to win more medals in various sports! In the women’s 75kg boxing quarterfinal, Lovlina Borgohain beat Seong Suyeon of South Korea 5-0 to guarantee herself a medal with winning the opening bout. Pincky Balhara went to the semi final of the women’s 78kg kurash grime, where she will fight for a medal.

The Indian men’s cricket team also had a quarter-final clash with Afghanistan canceled due to “massive rain” that finally ended, but at an unscheduled hour. The match went into a wash off and India advanced to achieve a spot in the semi-finals, as the top team.

Meanwhile, Asian Games gold-medallist Jyothi Surekha Vennam lost to Zhexenbinova Adel of South Korea in round 1 to fall out of the contention with her score of 146-150.

The achievements tallied into India’s tally during the day while the athletes rolled around in other sports namely athletics, shooting, boxing, kurash and others, continued their campaign.
