Sarvesh Kushare slipped to the silver medal position in the men’s high jump final. Kushare was leading after clearing 2.22m, but Chinese Taipei’s Fu Chao-hsuan moved to the top after clearing 2.25m.
India’s Tejaswin Shankar cliched BRONZE medal in the men’s decathlon. Shankar finished third with 7,934 points. Japan’s Yuma Maruyama won gold with 8,123 points, while China’s Chen Xinghua took silver with 8,012 points.
Earlier, India added four more medals to its tally at the Asian Games 2026 in Aichi-Nagoya with squash and athletics bringing fresh success for the Indian contingent.
The latest results have taken India’s medal count to 34 — four gold, 14silver and 15 bronze medals.
Squash provided India with two silver medals on Sunday. Abhay Singh finished runner-up in the men’s singles after losing the final to Malaysia’s Ng Eain Yow. Anahat Singh also settled for silver in the women’s singles after being beaten by Malaysia’s Sivasangari Subramaniam in the gold-medal match.India then added two medals from athletics.
Ancy Sojan Edappilly won silver in the women’s long jump. The Indian jumper, who set a new national record of 6.88m earlier this year, had entered the Asian Games final as one of India’s medal contenders.
Sprinter Harita Bhadra secured bronze in the women’s 200m. She clocked 23.20 seconds, finishing just 0.01 seconds ahead of Japan’s Abigeirufuka Ido in a close finish. Indonesia’s Shanti Pereira won gold in 22.78 seconds, while China’s Yujie Chen took silver in 22.93 seconds.
Apart from the medal-winning performances, Indian athletes and teams have also registered important results across several sports on Sunday. In compound archery, both India’s men’s and women’s teams reached the semi-finals. The men’s trio of Sahil Jadhav, Ganesh Mani Ratnam and Kushal Dalal defeated Bhutan 235-232, while the women’s team of Chikitha Taniparthi, Jyothi Surekha Vennam and Prithika Pradeep beat Kazakhstan 233-230. Both teams will face South Korea in the semi-finals.India also progressed in surfing, with Sugar Shanti Gayen and Kamali Prakash moving into the third round of the women’s shortboard event.
Sivaraj Babu also advanced in the men’s shortboard competition.In boxing, Ankush Panghal secured another medal for India by reaching the men’s 80kg semi-finals after a 5-0 win over Tajikistan’s Nekruz Salimov.
India’s men’s volleyball team also defeated Vietnam 3-0, winning 25-23, 25-21 and 25-20. Meanwhile, India’s women’s sabre team lost 45-35 to Uzbekistan in the quarter-finals, and the country’s individual badminton campaign ended after P.V. Sindhu and Unnati Hooda were eliminated in the women’s singles quarter-finals.
Weightlifter Harjinder Kaur finished ninth in the women’s 69kg category with a combined lift of 204kg.With several events still continuing, India’s medal tally could change further before the day’s action ends.
