Continuous rain has led to some rivers having swollen up in Chhattisgarh and caused flooding in certain parts of the state over the last three days. This has inflicted maximum damage on Shivrinarayan town of Janjgir-Champa district as water has considerably gathered around Shabri Bridge.
Reportedly the river is coming over the bridge with a height of six feet, making Janjgir and Shivrinarayan disconnected. Torrential river flow over the plateau has also led to water seeping into various roads and the homes of many people in the town.
The Bilaspur Road and Kera Road have been quarantined due to water spilling onto them. Drenching has also occurred in low lying settlement areas and people have been relocated to safer places.
Residents moved to the cultural building after flood water flooded Ward No. 1. The Mela Ground has also been impacted by the water levels that have increased.
Several locations are flooded, the residents are using boats to move from location to another. It has led the district administration to step up rescue and relief operations.
A team of the State Disaster Response Force (SDRF) has been deployed to assist people who are stuck in flood-affected areas and ensure that they are evacuated to safer areas, if required. Authorities have also set up food, drinking water and temporary housing in various locations for affected residents.
The situation is being closely watched by the authorities, as well as the impacts of rain and rising river levels in the area. People living in the floodable and low-lying areas have been recommended to adhere to administration instructions to stay away from the rivers and flooded roads.
