The IMD has issued a yellow alert for the national capital on Saturday, forecasting light to moderate rain in parts of the city. Safdarjung, representative of the city’s weather, recorded a minimum temperature of 23.2 degrees Celsius, 0.7 degrees below the normal, with 1 degree degrees from the day earlier.
Meanwhile, other weather stations also recorded a slight drip in the dip in the minimum temperature. The maximum temperature is likely to remain 32 degrees Celsius while the minimum temperature can settle near 20 degrees Celsius. The rainy spell is expected to continue into Sunday where Delhi may receive another spell of moderate rainfall. Light rainfall has also been forecasted for September 28th as con before conditions are expected to turn clear from September 29th.
“Generally cloudy sky is expected to persist. One or two spells of very light to light rain at most places is expected, with moderate rain at few places during morning to forenoon, accompanied by thunderstorm, lightning and strong winds of speed 30-40kmph; even gusting to 50 kmph might occur,” an IMD official said, adding that another spell of rain is possible between afternoon and evening hours.
The latest weather activity comes follows The withdrawal of Southwest Monsoon from Delhi on September 23rd. The capital recorded 728.6 mm of rainfall during the monsoon season, 16% above its long period average as per weather officials. Meanwhile, Delhi’s air quality has remained satisfactory.
As per Central Pollution Control Board’s an AQI of 108 for Delhi at 8:30 a.m., placing it in “unhealthy category for sensitive groups” under the disparate US AQI scale. PM 2.5 was recorded at 24 micrograms per cubic meter. While the rain is expected across the capital, residents may witness cooler and cloudier conditions throughout the weekend.
The IMD has issued a heavy rain alert for parts of Uttarakhand, including Dehradun, Pithoragarh and Nainital, warning that rainfall would continue in the state until September 28
Parts of Bihar, Jharkhand, Madhya Pradesh, Chhattisgarh, Odisha, West Bengal, Sikkim and Haryana, are expected to witness heavy rainfall along with strong winds, thunderstorms and the possibility of localised flooding.
