US President Donald Trump alludes to a “big decision” he must make about the fate of the Iran war, implying it may either be concluded via a deal or otherwise go further. Trump spoke Tuesday at the United Nations General Assembly in New York, claiming that the U.S. and Iran “may be able to come to an agreement before the November 3 midterm election.
Trump Puts Deal Or Escalation On The Table
Trump wondered if Iran could reach an agreement that would let them rebuild, or if he would get the U.S. on the road to the destruction of the Islamic Republic. He restated his administration’s efforts to keep Iran from acquiring a nuclear arsenal as a top priority.
Trump also had this to say about the military campaign, noting that he did not believe it was “good to allow problems or threats to remain unresolved. The fighting has caused disruptions to trade and shipping in the region and jeopardized the Strait of Hormuz as an important chokepoint in world energy supply.
Reports say that the Iranian delegation exited the General Assembly chamber as Trump gave his remarks on the conflict. But Trump claimed later that his U.S. and Iranian envoys, Steve Witkoff and Jared Kushner, attended a meeting on the sidelines of the UN conference with its Iranian counterpart.
Trump Rejects Claims Of US Ammunition Shortages
Trump also brushed aside the claim that the U.S. military is low on ammunition. Nevertheless, he stated, it was true that American supplies were being renewed quickly, and that “18 large factories” of ammunition were being built.
Trump said in his speech, “We are rebuilding our stocks at a record pace.”
Speaking at a time when high-level world leaders are gathering for the UN General Assembly debate in New York, the conflicts in the Middle East, Ukraine, and elsewhere around the globe are on the agenda.
