The Chief Minister of Chhattisgarh Vishnu Deo Sai has responded to the political row over the mocking of Prime Minister Narendra Modi at ‘Chhatron Ki Goonj’ ceremony held at Indore by Congress leader Rahul Gandhi.
Following his visit to Odisha, Sai told the media that Rahul Gandhi was the Leader of Opposition in the Lok Sabha and such behavior wasn’t appropriate for someone in the role. He also indicated that Gandhi’s behaviour was being revealed to the public all round the country. Seeing the incident at the student interaction programme, he has made the remarks in a political discourse between the BJP and Congress.
The controversy came in the wake of a comedian’s impersonation of Prime Minister Modi, during the event. Gandhi has also joined the interaction, sparking a criticism from BJP leaders. The Congress, on its part, explained that Gandhi was interacting with students on issues that concern students, adding that he was playing an active role in the programme for the students.
In his interaction with the media, Sai also shared the details of his interaction with Odisha Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi. The two leaders had a discussion on the Mahanadi water dispute which has been a matter of concern between the States of Chhattisgarh and Odisha for a long time.
The proceedings of the tribunal were complete regardingMahanadi water case and the report has been handed over to the Central Water Commission (CWC), Sai said. He said he hoped “soon” the dispute will be resolved.
Considering that the chief ministries of both the states are of the BJP-led government, the CM added that it was a “double-engine” government in both states. There may be discussions that can move the Mahanadi issue to a resolution, he said.
The tensions regarding the sharing and regulation of the waters of the Mahanadi has been an ongoing issue between the neighboring states and the current talks suggest the mutual efforts to resolve the dispute.
