Nearly three schools in Delhi received bomb threat emails on Tuesday, prompting security checks and immediate evacuation of students, sources and officials said. The schools include British School in Chanakyapuri, Army Public School in Dhaula Kuan and Sardar Patel Vidyalaya in Lodhi Estate.
As per Delhi Fire Service, a call was received from the Army Public School in the Dhaula Kuan area at 11:30 a.m, following which five tenders were immediately rushed to the spot.
“The bomb threat was declared hoax following thorough checking at 1.05 pm,” a DFS official said.
Subsequently, another threat mail was reported by British School, which was also declared hoax after checking. Security personnel checked the school buildings and the surrounding areas for any suspicious object or material. Launching an investigation, the police are looking into the source of the emails and examining the details of the threats.
The officer who conducted a search operation at the premises said no explosive or suspicious object was found. The threat was subsequently declared a hoax after security agencies complete their inspection, he said.
Just after receiving the notice, students from the Sardar Patel Vidyalaya were safely evacuated from the premises and a security check was conducted. The middle school students had juuu completed their exams, while the senior school examination was underway according to the officials. The school said it would assess the situation carefully before taking a decision on the remaining examinations.
Investigation into the bomb threats has been launched to identify the sender of the email and the motive behind the mails.
Parents and students have been urged to remain calm and not to spread false information as it will trigger panic amongst the crowd.
