Speculations around Varun Chakravarty for the Asian Games made rounds after he was ruled out of the ongoing T20 series against Afghanistan owing to his side strain.
“It is a fresh injury. MRI has revealed that it is a side strain. He is out of the series and looks unlikely for Asian Games,” said a BCCI source.
The second and third T20 against Afghanistan will be played here on Tuesday and Thursday.
The Asian games commence September 19 with a historic T20 against Japan just 4 days apart prior to the Asian Games on September 28th.Chakravarty had recently recovered from a hamstring injury that he suffered in July while on a tour to England. He picked up the side strain during the series opener against Afghanistan, which India won by 16 runs, after bowling four overs.
In a similar injury related development, Indian pacer Harshit Rana was replaced by Yash Thakur as he failed to recover in time. Rana was in the original squad. Star pacer Jasprit Bumrah, all-rounders Nitish Reddy and Washington Sundar have also recently recovered from injuries.
