Muslim scholar Tauqeer Nizami has raised doubts about the political agenda of AIMIM chief Asaduddin Owaisi, whether he is for a greater or lesser Muslim representation at the parliamentary level.
Nizami stated that since 2014, Muslims have been losing political representation in the country and raised queries over the effect of Owaisi’s game on the political voice of the community.
As the situation in Bhopal politics took a turn in its favor, Nizami challenged Owaisi with just one question: What is your stance on the existing Muslim legislators in the city of Bhopal? He noted that there are two MLAs in the state Assembly representing among them the Muslim community in Bhopal.
Nizami said to be aware of the issue, Owaisi should declare it in public screams during his rally in Bhopal in the upcoming elections that whether AIMIM will contest the seats of the two Muslim legislators in future or not.
The remarks precede Owaisi’s upcoming public meeting in Bhopal that has been sparking wave of political interest in the city. The head of the AIMIM will be expected to be present at the event to address a large gathering in the party’s political outreach activities.
With these comments, Nizami has given one more ring to the debate on having Muslim political presence in Madhya Pradesh. AIMIM is expanding its work into electoral politics, and his challenge is whether that will raise or lower the political voice of the community, or whether it will split their voting.
