According to Ukraine’s emergency services, Russia has again resumed attacks in the vicinity of the Kyiv city, following some three-day halt in the strike. Russia President Vladimir Putin had ordered a temporary halt during his weekend visit to Russia and Ukraine with the US President, Donald Trump’s envoys.
On Monday, the State Emergency Service of Ukraine reported that “Russian drones have made targets on the Boryspil and Fastiv districts of Kyiv region. The agency said the attacks on Telegram were a measure to mark the end of the strikes.
At the same time, the Kyiv City Military Administration had to issue an air raid alert because of the reports of a drone threat. Authorities were watching the situation and people in the capital were urged to move to shelters and adhere to safety guidelines.
The local state-run news agency TASS also said earlier that the three-day cease-fire was over, and that Russia would resume its attacks.
The situation came and went as Washington sent two left-wing envoys, Steve Witkoff and Jared Kushner, to Moscow and Kyiv, Russia and Ukraine, respectively, to do a sales job on peace negotiations.
The recent talks with Russia and Ukraine with regard to the developments are characterised by progress in the opinion of Witkoff. His remarks have sparked optimism for resuming the three-party U.S.-Russian-Ukrainian talks in the field.
The renewal of Russian strikes, however, shows that Russia’s peace mission is ongoing for a continued conflict. The possibility of a permanent ceasefire with the military still in action looming this does not seem bright.
