The tension between the BJP and Congress seems to be getting up as the Congress plans a programme in Indore on September 12 ahead of Rahul Gandhi’s visit to Region Park, where the two sides are squabbling over land which goes back to the IDA.
The controversy comes on the eve of an intractable dispute over permission for the proposed event at Nehru Stadium. The BJP has said that the machine of JCB was used to flatten the terrain and chop down shrubs and plants in an IDA green belt in the context of its preparations for Rahul Gandhi’s programme.
BJP state spokesperson Rakesh Singh Yadav said two JCB machines had been brought here on a late night and said who had approved work on the land which is owned by the Indore Development Authority. He called for an investigation, and he said if it was used on public land, “responsibility should be put on that person.
Yadav also blamed the Congress for fanning trouble over the event and said the party was being pressurised over a huge turnout of youth.
The Congress has shot down the charges. Cleaning was being done as part of the activities planned for the occasion of Ganesh Chaturthi by the municipal corporation, and was no part of Rahul Gandhi’s programme, party spokesperson Amit Chaurasia said.
Congress has approached the officials for the permission of Nehru Stadium and identified four to five alternate places, Chaurasia said. He termed Rahul Gandhi’s proposed ‘Students Ki Goonj’ programme as a non-political engagement to address issues related to students and youth.
The Congress leader further alleged that the BJP is afraid of Rahul Gandhi coming up with issues regarding recruitment exams and other issues at the national level.
