After holding a brief discussion with Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian, Prime Minister Narendra Modi took to his X handle and reiterated India’s commitment to strengthening its long-standing friendship with Iran across diverse sectors.
Taking to X, Modi said, “We want to expand and diversify our trade basket in the times to come. We had a discussion on the prevailing situation in the region. India will continue to support all efforts aimed at ensuring lasting peace.”
Dr. Masoud Pezeshkian, President of the Islamic Republic of Iran, met and held talks with Prime Minister Narendra Modi during the first leg of his visit to Kyrgyzstan to attend and address the Shanghai Cooperation Organisation (SCO) Summit and the Shanghai Plus Summit.
During the interaction, Pezeshkian told Prime Minister Narendra Modi on the sidelines of the SCO summit in Bishkek that Tehran is “seeking a negotiated solution” to the conflict with the United States. Pezeshkian further said that “War is in no one’s interest.”
Earlier in the day, the Iranian Embassy in India posted a picture of Prime Minister Narendra Modi meeting Iran’s Masoud Pezeshkian on the sidelines of the Shanghai Cooperation Organisation (SCO) summit on Monday.
In a post on X, the Iranian Embassy wrote, “Dr Masoud Pezeshkian, President of the Islamic Republic of Iran, met and held talks with Shri Narendra Modi, Prime Minister of India, during the first leg of his visit to Kyrgyzstan to attend and address the Shanghai Cooperation Organisation (SCO) Summit and the Shanghai Plus Summit.”
Meanwhile, American forces bombed two IRGC rocket launchers on Larak Island on Sunday, marking Washington’s first known strike on Iran since late July. Iran’s Tasnim news agency said the attack was carried out by a drone.
Iran immediately retaliated by launching ballistic missiles at Jordan.
