Problems with the accommodation facilities were raised by the organisers of the Aichi-Nagoya Asian Games and they have confirmed provisions have been made for over 17,000 athletes and officials are expected to attend the games.
The assurance was made by the Aichi-Nagoya Asian Games Organising Committee (AINAGOC) and the Olympic Council of Asia (OCA) amid reports of a huge jump in the number of participants beyond the original estimates.
The problem of providing accommodation had also apparently concerned cricket playing countries. While the disparity in terms of facilities for the BCCI-cricketers wasn’t acceptable, the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) was mulling over creating a ‘B’ team to send if the required improvements were not made, as per a report.
A report had indicated that cricketers had been given three choices for accommodation – live in the city and fly in to the venues and return by bullet train; live on a ship or live under marquee tent accommodation. These options did not make an impression on the teams like India, Pakistan, Bangladesh, Afghanistan and Sri Lanka.
Otherwise, the OCA, which is the organization that receives complaints of harassment and bullying, has turned down reports that suitable accommodation has not been worked out. According to the organisation, all registered athletes and officials have received the Games fit accommodation.
Additionally, the OCA confirmed attendance topped over 17,000 people, who registered prior to the Entry by Name deadline in July. No further registration would be allowed except in exceptional situations, it added, as long as that stands.
Organisations charged the event is still on track and most likely one of the most eventful editions of the Asian Games taking place. The announcement should help to quell any worries about logistics and hosting before the multi-sports extravaganza.
