On the occasion of the celebration of National Sports Day, Telangana Chief Minister Kirankumar Reddy congratulated sportspersons, athletes and sports enthusiasts on this auspicious day with warm words of encouragement. The day becomes a state affair every year on 29th August, as it’s Major Dhyan Chand’s birth anniversary.

Revanth Reddy spoke of the contribution and legacy of Major Dhyan Chand who made India a prominent power in hockey. He wished that sportspersons nationwide would be inspired by the hockey legend and go in the direction of sports, with determination and self-confidence.

The Telangana Chief Minister also stressed on the need for practice and commitment for success in sports. He advised sportsmen to stick to their goals and work hard to excel and continue the legacy of Major Dhyan Chand.

Chief Minister of the state N. Chandrababu Naidu, and Deputy Chief Minister K. Pavan Kumar along with their family members also paid their respect to Major Dhyan Chand on his birth anniversary. On the sidelines of the National Sports Day they extended their good wishes to athletes, sportspersons, coaches and sport enthusiasts of the country.

Sporting leaders also recognized the role of athletes and coaches in promoting the culture of sport in India and their motivation of the youth to participate in sports.

Meanwhile, National Sports Day is a day to honour the great contribution of Major Dhyan Chand to Indian hockey and acknowledge the dedication of sports persons in various sports.
