Industry tracker reveals Toxic: A Fairy Tale for Grown-Ups, directed by Yash-Mohan, enjoyed a mammoth opening collecting Rs 101.10 crore net in India with just one day of the movie’s release. The Geetu Mohandas helmed movie was shown in 24,579 screens on Wednesday and made India gross Rs 120.75 crore. The film is reportedly to have crossed Rs 140.75 crore world over.
The Hindi version turned out to be the highest grosser from opening day, topping the chart with Rs 55 crore net. The Kannada version followed with Rs 23.30 crore while the Telugu was collected at Rs 16 crore. The amount contributed from Tamil and Malayalam versions was Rs 5.50 crore and Rs 1.30 crore, respectively.
Toxic had already earned significant buzz before its theatrical release and already sold Rs 73.43 crore worth of tickets and of which over 18.48 lakh have been booked. The massive demand that was shown in pre-release affected the opening of Yash’s film after KGF: Chapter 2.The surging sales of Yash’s film in the pre-release shows that his comeback to the big screen took off like a rocket.
Toxic is a post-independence GOA-set film directed by Geetu Mohandas and produced by KVN Productions and Monster Mind Creations with Venkat K. Narayana and Yash as executive producers, and about a gangster who checks out of his loyalty, morality and redemption.
Yash stars in a double role in the film with Kiara Advani, Nayanthara, Huma Qureshi, Tara Sutaria & Rukmini Vasanth. The music has been written by Ravi Basrur and Vishal Mishra, while in the cinematography, Rajeev Ravi is responsible for the work.
Toxic has built up a proactive start on the tune and would aim to keep the momentum going on the upcoming days in anticipation of the Rs 100 crore-plus opening.
