Narcotics Control Bureau (NCB) broke an alleged cross-border heroin syndicate inJK in the wake of its recent anti-Pakistan backed (PwN) narco-terrorism operations.
The anti-drug agency arrested three individuals, including the alleged mastermind of the heroin syndicate and two suspected traffickers and recovered 5.16 kg of high grade heroin that was valued crores of rupees.
On receiving specific information, NCB officials on August 22, intercepted a vehicle at Panjirthi in Jammu and the heroin was recovered from two citizens of Baramulla. In the course of questioning, the two suspects not only gave information about the person who supplied with the consignment, but they also thought that he was run a syndicate.
After this, the NCB teams mounted an anti-boming raids and subjected the crack bomber suspected of being the mastermind to surveillance. On Monday, less than 48 hours after his arrest, investigators traced him to Leh, where they arrested him.
The raid is a sign of the agency’s ethos of destroying entire drug rings, rather than just seizing narcotics and arresting drug couriers, officials said.
The investigation now centres on who the alleged sources are who supply goods across the border, who are the financial sources involved, the transporters and what the local associates and forward distribution network is.
The alleged seizure is just a few days after two other heroin drug seizures by the NCB’s Jammu unit earlier this month. Authorities had on August 12 seized 438 grams of heroin followed by 603 grams on August 13, showing a rise in anti-narcotics operations in the region.
Authorities are ongoing to track “backward” and “forward” connections of the alleged cartel and to determine the reach of the other persons in the network.
