A 20-year-old aspirant from Madhya Pradesh allegedly committed suicide by hanging herself from a ceiling fan at her rented apartment in Kota, Rajasthan, the police said on Wednesday.

Khooshbu’s younger sister, Khusi Patel reported the news of the suicide after she returned home from the classes on Tuesday night.

According to sources, the Patel sisters were living in an apartment in Landmark City under the Kunhadi police station area. The younger sister is also a coaching student in Kota.

According to sources, Khooshbu was preparing for the medical entrance examination for the second time. No suicide note has been recovered. And the exact reason behind the extreme step is yet to be ascertained. However, Khooshbu was reportedly distressed after scoring 450 marks in her previous NEET UG attempt.

Officials also mentioned that the rented apartment as per the hostel rooms under the Kota hostel association’s guidelines, did not have an anti-hanging device.

As per sources, Khushi Patel who is preparing for the JEE examination returned home after 9 p.m. Coming home from her classes in Jawahar Nagar she found the door locked from inside. After repeatedly knocking and receiving no response, she sought help from the friends, neighbors and the security guards, and the door was finally flung open after a locksmith was called. On being found hanging from the fan, Khooshbu was immediately rushed to the hospital where doctors declared her brought dead.

The circle inspector Divesh Bhardwaj interacting with the media said Khooshbu had been preparing for a second NEET attempt and was reportedly under stress over her previous score. Assistant sub-inspector Anil Kumar confirmed that no suicide note was recovered and that a case based on a complaint filed by Khooshbu’s grandfather Desraj Patel has been filed. The body was handed over to the family following the postmortem examination on Wednesday for the final rites.

This is the 8th suicide since January this year.
