Chhattisgarh transfers Rs 631 crore under Mahtari Vandan Yojana ahead of Raksha Bandhan

The Chhattisgarh government has infused over Rs. 631 crore into the hands of more than 67.28 lakh women under the Chhattisgarh government’s Mahtari Vandan Yojana which is on prior approval, ahead of Raksha Bandhan. The early transfer has been touted as a cultural move to help women in the state financially.

The eligible women are getting Rs 1,000 direct into their bank accounts every month under the scheme, using the Direct Benefit Transfer (DBT) system. She wants to have more confidence in her finances and get her family to rely more on her for financial needs.

According to the government, the regular financial aid enables those who receive it to cover their cost of food, medicines, schooling their children, buying clothing and other needs in the households. For many families, an affordable monthly contribution can make a significant difference in their financial situation.

The impact of scheme can also be seen in remote areas of Chhattisgarh. According to reports, 27,272 eligible women in Narayanpur district are being supported with the help of DBT. Of those beneficiaries, 26,710 beneficiaries were included in the initial phase and another 562 women belonging to remote areas under the Niyad Nellanar initiative was included after that.

According to reports, 30 installments of the scheme have created a total of Rs 74.66 crore being transferred directly to the bank accounts of the women in Narayanpur district.

The money is spent on household needs, purchasing children’s education, medications, and other basic needs, said beneficiaries. Some women also have a part of the support that they will use to help them in the future.

The government has termed the Mahtari Vandan Yojana as not just a financial assistance scheme, but also one that can boost the confidence, self-reliance and participation of women in family decisions through consistent payments.
