Israel’s prime minister Benjamin Netanyahu said Iran made an attempt to assassinate one of his sons, but did not give details of the plot or what was the name of his son and what date.
During a phone call with a media agency of the Israeli Broadcasting Authority, Netanyahu revealed that Iran had targeted one of his children and urged for security protection when referring to his family. His remarks were part of a wider debate about security measures for his relatives following Israel’s domestic security agency, Shin Bet, which reportedly refused to assign troops to guard the former military chief Gadi Eisenkot slated to run against Netanyahu in future elections.
Netanyahu has two children, sons, Yair and Avner. Yair has lived in Miami a good amount of time since 2024 and is said to have been provided with Shin Bet protection while in the city. The younger son, Avner, has been residing mostly in Israel.
Netanyahu’s family’s security has been criticised, especially as regards the expenses incurred to protect Yair in the United States. Netanyahu responded to the arrangements, claiming that otherwise his son may be a target.
The Israeli leader’s latest remarks come as the leaders of Israel and Iran are drumming up rising tensions between the two countries and adding to political upheavals ahead of the next Israeli elections.
