During the operation, 7 people were arrested by Kondagaon Police in a joint operation with Cyber Cell for alleged gambling activities in the forest area of Kewti village, who were seized with cash and playing cards, mobile phones and two wheelers.
Police received information on August 21 about at least five are gambling with the money in the forest Kewti. Police then responded to that information and after shutting down the area and police, seven suspected bookmakers were arrested on site.
From the scene, police recovered Rs 7,100 cash, 52 playing cards, 5 mobile and 6 two-wheelers. This estimate of the value of the items seized has been pegged at around Rs 2,01,100.
Uttam Patel, 33, Vishnu Das Soni, 27, Mahesh Markam, 27, Mangatram Korram, 26, Arjun Baghel, 26, Vikas Thakur, 36, and Kamlesh Soni, 28 have been arrested. Police stated that all the seven are inhabitants of different localities in Kondagaon district.
A case has been filed against the accused in Kondagaon Police Station under Section 3 of the Chhattisgarh Gambling Prohibition Act, 2022. There is ongoing investigation into the question.
The operation was carried out on the instructions given by Superintendent of Police (SP) IPS Pankaj Chandra, under the supervision of Additional SP Kapil Chandra and the leadership of Kondagaon SDOP Rupesh Kumar.
The police officials of Kondagaon Police Station and Cyber Branch were also instrumental in the action, which includes Station House Officer Saurabh Upadhyay, Assistant Sub-Inspector Pitambar Kathar, Head Constable Narendra Dehari, Cyber Branch officers Ajay Baghel, Prashant Jurri, Santosh Kodopi, Birju Sori and Chandan Sori.
