The Government of Chhattisgarh Education Department has declared some changes to make teachers easily accessible, transparent recruitment and make schools work better throughout the state.

In the press conference, Education Minister Gajendra Yadav and secretary of the department, Dr Kamalpreet Singh explained the current activities and plans of the department for the upcoming academic session.

Officials said the teacher rationalisation process has been finished in all over the state to tackle their dearth in schools. The exercise reportedly helped to rectify the teacher scarcity issues in 453 schools. The department highlighted that the methodology was centered more on school adjustments and integration to improve the utilization of existing school resources, instead of fewer schools.

The department also stated that the promotions of the different teacher cadres have been done transparently. Hiring for special education positions also has been started.

According to officials, the state is carrying out recruitment of 5,000 teachers in phases. Appointments will be held on a regular basis via the Employee Selection Board and recruiting opportunities will utilize computer-based testing in the recruitment for contractual positions. Selection will continue to be based on merit.

The department has particularly specified introduction of Computer Based Tests (CBT) for contractual recruitment with the assertion that the selection process would be more transparent and fair with the use of the same.

The switch to a new academic calendar is another significant change contained in the letter. All the schools are expected to be aligned with the academic calendar from the Academic Session 2026-27 in the all of Chhattisgarh. The new academic session will start from April 1 instead of the previous one which was to begin from 15th June.

The decision was made to introduce uniformity in academic activities and operations of schools throughout the state, the government said. An additional emphasis is on enhancing teachers’ availability and the utilization of available school resources.
