Jabalpur: Netaji Subhash Chandra Bose Medical College in the Madhya Pradesh town of Jabalpur was the scene of a large-scale financial defalcation, in which medical college (NSBC) employees allegedly stole from Rs 1.63 crore to 1.83 crore over the past six years.

Police representative stated that the alleged fraud includes the receipt of money from medical and nursing students and money deposited in OPD of the hospital. The employees allegedly took the entire amount from students and gave payment receipts and the money that was collected by the employees was not credited to the college’s official bank account.

The alleged irregularities allegedly persisted from 2020 to 2025. The fraud was discovered during an audit when discrepancies were discovered when comparing the amounts collected to the amounts of money deposited in the bank.

Hackery of financial reports at the medical college had led to a complaint being filed at garha police station saying there was a shortfall in finances of around Rs 1.63 crore, said Additional Superintendent of Police Suryakant Sharma at the crime scene.

An FIR has been filed against five employees in regard to the alleged embezzlement. Police are investigating how much money was involved in the alleged financial irregularities, the department said, and how the funds were supposedly diverted.

The police said that three employees have been arrested and placed under police remand – Arvind Dhurve, Bhanu Singh and Vishal Rathe were accused. They’re being questioned by investigators trying to figure out what exactly went on with the alleged fraud.

The investigation is continuing to investigate financial records and other evidence. With continued investigation, penalties are likely on the horizon for other accused.
