The fans of Zindagi Na Milegi Dobara now have something to celebrate. Fifteen years after the much-loved film hit cinemas, filmmaker Zoya Akhtar has revealed that a sequel to the Hrithik Roshan, Farhan Akhtar and Abhay Deol-starrer is currently in development.
During a presentation at the Monsoon Film Festival, Zoya handed out confirmation that she is currently in talks with her long-time associate director Reema Kagti to shoot the possible sequel. But the filmmaker said the project won’t proceed without them securing a new concept that will suit the beloved characters at this stage in their lives.
They are now developing the concept but Zoya did not say that the movie would actually be shot, it is still unclear, she said. How to make the challenge interesting and believable, years after that famous road trip in Spain with her characters, she said.
In 2025, then it seemed as if things had heated up for the possibility of a sequel as Hrithik Roshan, Farhan Akhtar and Abhay Deol were seen together for the ad for Yas Island. The announcement set the imaginations of the fans in a frenzy as many initially thought that it was a teaser for Zindagi Na Milegi Dobara 2.
Zoya remembered how they joked when they’ve seen the ad, and then they were surprised and disappointed when they found it was an ad.
Zindagi Na Milegi Dobara was released in 2011, featured three childhood friends of Arjun, Kabir and Imran—a three week road trip around Spain. Harsh Varna is also sees Katrina Kaif, Kalki Koechlin and Naseeruddin Shah and is produced by Farhan Akhtar and Ritesh Sidhwani’s Excel Entertainment.
Zoya’s new turnaround is certainly helping to boost a lot of hopes about the possibility of a new comeback, but that is not a reality for fans yet.
