According to Moscow Mayor Sergei Sobyanin, about 600 drones attacked the Moscow region for a prolonged period overnight, damaging three people.
The attack follows Ukraine’s no-holds-barred drone offensive inside Russia, which has included regular barrages against military facilities and industrial sites, as well as carried out regular attacks against warehouses far from the front line.
It is believed that about 600 drones flew towards the Moscow region from Sunday evening to around 6:30 am local time, with 201 among them being machine-to-machine (M2M) drones that were destroyed over the region, Sobyanin said.
In his previous address, the Moscow mayor reported that three persons sustained injuries around the MKAD, the ring road around the Russian capital. The injured were receiving medical aid, he said.
The overnight attack was also in Russia’s southern Rostov region at the border with Ukraine. Yuri Sliusar, regional governor, said that three people had been killed and another one injured in the attacks.
In total, Russian troops shot down over 150 drones and missiles in three cities and nine districts in the region, Sliusar said.
Residential and industrial property were damaged in the Kamensky district as a result of the attacks, the governor said. Roofs were damaged in several buildings in Kamensk-Shakhtinsky and windows blown out in an apartment building and in the Kamensk-Shakhtinsky railway station were reported.
The current strikes bring Ukraine’s long-range drone campaign against inside Russian targets into the spotlight in the fifth year of the conflict. Russian air defence-related authorities have also continued to detect ‘significant numbers’ of drones and Ukrainian operations have grown more and more inclined toward defying the line.
