Elephant attack near Kailash Gufa in Chhattisgarh’s Jashpur leaves villager seriously injured

Elephant attack incidents have been on the rise in Chhattisgarh’s Jashpur district where a herd of 16 elephants are moving across the Bagicha forest range.

There is panic in surrounding villages as elephants raided one villagers around a fair, which was close to Kailash Gufa, the man got substantially injured. The incident has also raised concern regarding the safety of devotees of the popular religious place visiting during Sawan season.

Information states that the herd has been roaming for a while now in the woods near Maini-Bimda while the Forest Department is keeping a watch on the herd. Teaming up has been an alert since latest attack and are monitoring elephant’s location.

There is a high influx of devotees in Kailash Gufa, especially on Mondays of the month of Sawan. Meanwhile, about 10,000 people belonging to Kanwariya community from Shrikot in Balrampur have reportedly set off with holy water to offer at the Shiva lingam, adding to the burden on the authorities to ensure their safety.

Forest Department teams are on watch round the clock and making public announcements in local villages to advise people. The authorities are also preparing precautions as they got a report that devotees were moving towards Kailash Gufa.

The recent occurrence is not far from another death toll elephant attack in the district. A fake house in Ghughri Kadamtoli village, close to the forest, was reportedly attacked by elephants as the old man was resting in his bedroom.In the village of Ghughri Kadamtoli, a group of elephants apparently hounded a home where an old man was sleeping in his bedroom. The old man passed away on the scene.

The elephant herd is now in close proximity to Kailash Gufa, so the authorities have stepped up their security and cautioned villagers and visitors to be careful with regards to elephant movements.
