With heavy rain in Mumbai early on Wednesday, the number of deaths in the landslide that occurred at Gaushiya Chawl in the Kurla area has increased to seven, two of them being children. This incident took place in Chirag Nagar near the Rathod Medical Sheds got effected by land fall.
Seven Killed in Landslide
According to a senior official, seven people have died in the incident. Mohamad Samir Ansari (14), Sahil Husen Abdul Kazi (19), Aban Arif Shaikh (2), Manat Arif Shaikh (4), Marjina Arif Shaikh (27), Viket Ramesh Yadav (27) and an unidentified person, who was thought to be about 45, were the victims.

Rescue Operation Underway
After the landslide, Police personnel and other Emergency Response teams were deployed at the site. It was a joint rescue exercise by officials and personnel of the BMC, the Mumbai Fire Brigade, National Disaster Response Force (NDRF), Mumbai Police and 108 ambulance services, etc.
Teams have been mobilizing to evacuate someone who could be trapped in the affected sheds.
Assistance Pledged to Victims
Mumbai Mayor has announced financial help to the victims of the tragedy. The families of the deceased will get Rs 4 lakh each and the injured in the landslide will get Rs 50,000 each. Rescue and relief efforts are still ongoing and the situation is continuously being observed by the authorities in the wake of the heavy rainfall.
