Indore master plan road width reduced from 100 feet to 80 feet, giving relief to hundreds

Finally, authorities have been able to agree to scale back the proposed 100 feet wide Master Plan (road) in Indore, down from 100 feet to 80 feet, following a six-month long dispute.

The decision relates to the proposed road along Advance Academy and BCM Heights, and will bring significant relief to hundreds of families, property owners and businesses in Nipania and Pipliya Kumar.

The initial intent under the Master Plan was to make the road a 100-foot-wide road. This would have provided a number of homes, retailers and businesses with a direct route to the street, and therefore direct access. Construction had been causing some concern to residents and business owners, who were concerned about the work causing extensive damage to their property and livelihoods.

Nearly six months, the affected residents and traders had been pressing for a solution that would enable the road to be developed without large scale displacement.

Regional MLA and Water Resources Minister Tulsiram Silawat spoke up in the matter and raised the issues with Mohan Yadav, Chief Minister, and Kailash Vijayvargiya, minister of Urban Development and Housing of Madhya Pradesh. The discussion over this proposal width and an agreement was reached with the government officials to scale this back to 80 feet.

The updated plan should strike a balance between development on the site and safeguarding of current businesses and dwellings. The road will enhance connectivity in the area and minimise the number of properties that will have a potential impact on the road.

After the decision the residents of MTV Sangharsh Samiti and the affected residents welcomed Silawat and thanked him. They had a celebration to share sweet bundles and congratulated the minister.

During the process of road construction, he considers himself not only an MLA or minister but also a “servant” of the people, Silawat said, assuring residents of his support in this effort.
