The resolution by Tamil Nadu Assembly on the state’s official song, Tamil Thaai Vazhthu, was passed unanimously on Monday, by Chief Minister C Joseph Vijay in the assembly, calling for its routine use in opening every government programme and events.
The Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam government would not budge when it comes to maintaining Tamil Nadu’s language and cultural rights, Vijay clarified while introducing the resolution in the Assembly. He dubbed Tamil as not just a language, but a part and a way of life of the state, and its emotions.
Vijay emphasized how much one should respect one’s mother tongue, which has been “as pure as one’s mother. He also emphasized the importance of respecting Tamil’s proper place as it was connected with the rights of Tamil language and culture of the state.
Members of the ruling camp and other opposition parties including the DMK and AIADMK also voted for the resolution unanimously.
According to the resolution, Tamil Thaai Vazhthu will be chanted at the beginning of programmes at educational institutes, universities, Government offices and Public Sector units in Tamil Nadu.
The transition aims to put in place a standard procedure for the opening and carrying out of official programmes and boost the usage of the state’s national song at public events.
In the Assembly, Vijay reiterated his government’s promise to take care of Tamil language and culture and stated that Hindi language was not going to encroach Tamil Nadu’s language diversity.
The resolution passed by an overwhelming margin is a major political and cultural milestone in the state, and government officials are set on institutionalizing the performance of the Tamil Thaai Vazhthu into various public and government events.
