The Jharkhand government is continuing the sixth meeting with a group of students protesting against the alleged irregularities in the civil services exams in the state conducted at Ranchi. The gathering is taking place at a state guesthouse, where the members of the indigenously developed and left-wing All India Students’ Association (AISA) are said to be involved in the discussion.
The meeting is the fifth that has taken place since the blocking of meetings between the administration and the protesting students. The students had been protesting for over 14 days against at least some parts of the Jharkhand Public Service Commission (JPSC) examination being irregular.
In a previous interview, Dipika Pandey Singh, state minister, had said the grievances placed by the students were legitimate. She, too, announced that the Jharkhand Chief Minister Hemant Soren had been made aware of their demands and talks initiated by Government officials with them.
Also on Thursday, another State minister, Sanjay Prasad Yadav, stated, after speaking with Soren, that the issue should be further discussed with the students as per the decision.
Students Demand Cancellation Of JPSC Exam
The protest at the Jaipal Singh Munda Stadium of the Ranchi cemetery has now passed the 16th day. The one of the major demands of protesters is that the officer of JPSC carrying out the 14th Civil Service Preliminary Examination on 2nd July must be called off.
The students have claimed irregularities in the examination process and demanded an independent investigation in the matter. They have called on the police to let the probe be done by the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) or a committee led by a retired judge.
In the sixth round of the meetings, both sides will be discussing the students’ demands and what they believe can be done to resolve the current impasse.
