In a shocking incident of greed, a husband murdered his wife and staged it as an accident to claim an insurance of Rs 44 lakhs. The victim, identified as Rita, was killed by her husband Amar Singh in UP’s Hamirpur. The husband, following the murder, went to the police to report his wife missing but became entangled in the questioning himself.
The police intensified the interrogation as “inconsistencies in his statements aroused suspicion.” As the probe deepened, Amar confessed that, driven by greed for the insurance money, he along with three other accomplices had beaten his wife to death with sticks and clubs and then ran the body over with a car. Rita’s body was found on Wednesday night near Vaitka Dham temple in Hamirpur’s Lalpur area. The body was then sent for postmortem.
“The accused husband himself arrived at the police station to report his wife missing but became entangled during police questioning. Subsequently, the entire matter came to light. The police have solved the case, arrested the accused husband along with his accomplices, and sent them behind bars,” said Arvind Kumar Verma, Additional Superintendent of Police (ASP), Hamirpur.
As per postmortem reports, 12 external injuries were identified on her body, with all organs apart from kidneys completely damaged.
As per information given by Rita’s father, this was her second marriage. She had three daughters from her previous marriage in 2002. Following the death of her husband, she began living in Gujaini area of Kanpur, where she met Amar, who worked at a flour mill and lived with his mother. It was two years ago that the duo got married and had a son from their marriage.
According to Sarvesh, the father of the deceased, Amar had taken out an insurance policy two months ago and deposited Rs 2.60 lakh as the first premium.
