BJP leader Shehzad Poonawalla has invited speculations about his political future after noticeably scrubbing the “National Spokesperson, BJP” tag from his X (formerly Twitter) bio. That move has sparked speculation regarding his potential retirement from active politics, but hasn’t been announced by Poonawalla himself.
In his updated bio, Shehzad Poonawalla now written that he was a ‘lifelong follower of PM Narendra Modi’, etc. also adds “Religion: Islam, Culture: Hindu, Ideology: Bhartiya. Author: GST Ki Yatra.” He merely posted a “My updated bio,” and everyone was thrilled!
All the turmoil was further fueled by the 38-year-old reposting two snippets from previous interviews in which he spoke about his “wanting to retire from politics.” During one of these videos, Poonawalla remarked that public service is bigger than electoral politics and revealed that he had decided to pull out of politics after the Lok Sabha elections in 2024.
The dismay brought by PM Narendra Modi’s emotional speech after the BJP won its third successive victory persuaded him to stay in politics and help the party win in crucial states like West Bengal, Delhi, Maharashtra and Haryana in key upcoming state contests.
The bio update and the resurfaced interviews have fueled speculations, but Poonawalla has yet to disclose his stance on the possibility of his exit from the BJP or whether he wants to step aside from politics altogether. But his new maneuver has triggered a lot of discussion on both politics and social media.
